2023 marks 20 years since the opening of MSF’s HIV project in Conakry, the capital of Guinea. Over the past two decades, MSF has been a key driving force behind implementing new medical approaches, mobilising civil society and setting up innovative distribution schemes for antiretroviral drugs, while constantly pushing authorities and donors to increase their efforts to support HIV care in Guinea.
We handed over the microphone to our patients, staff, and activists, who testified about the progress made in the past two decades. While the stigma around HIV is still high, it is reducing thanks to the efforts of all those who have shown that people with HIV can now live long and healthy lives and even have children without passing on the virus.

Living with HIV has its daily challenges and complications, but our patients exhibit an unmistakable joie de vivre.
We called on top photographer Namsa Leuba to help document their daily lives. Namsa Leuba is herself from Guinea and many of her projects explore her anthropological interest in traditional customs.
