Harmanli, Bulgaria is the first arrival point in Bulgaria for refugees crossing through Turkey from different parts of the world. Just 50 km from the triple border crossing with Greece and Turkey, Harmanli has emerged as a critical point of response to escalating refugee arrivals. As the largest open Reception Center in Bulgaria, accommodating up to 1,710 individuals, the occupancy rate has surged by 300% since 2020 . However, the growing population faces formidable challenges, and available services are grappling to meet the pressing medical needs within the center. MSF initiated a clinic within the Harmanli Reception and Identification Center in July 2023, including a medical doctor, nurse, psychologist and health promotion specialists. The health services that we provide include: Primary healthcare including SRH and NCDs, referrals to the public healthcare system along with emergency medical assistance when needed, mental Health support through individual and group sessions, HP and CM.
