"Tales of Women at Sea" is an initiative focusing on the women rescued, as well as on the men who left a woman behind and their connection to that specific woman. Through portraits and testimonies, the survivors describe the path that led them to cross the Mediterranean at that particular moment, with a specific focus on the precarious situation in which women find themselves before attempting the crossing. The voices of the survivors are combined with testimonies from female rescuers, who explain why they are involved in this life-saving work and the bond they form with the survivors after the rescue.

Audio testimonies have been captured by two female photographers from different backgrounds with a view to make women’s voices heard from different perspectives, while respecting cultural sensitivities: Mahka Eslami (Iran) and Nyancho NwaNri.
