19-year-old Assan (name changed), originally from Gambia, was rescued by Ocean Viking. He recalled the difficult times migrants and refugees are facing in Libya when come across human trafficking and continuous fighting. He then explained that people fleeing at sea, especially women and children are incredibly vulnerable. He misses his mother very much but he has no choice but to flee from a place which is not safe to live.

Assan (name changed) was rescued on 18-19 February 2020 along with a total of 276 people (rescued in 3 operations in 48h) they were disembarked in Pozzallo (south of Sicily) on the 23 of February after spending a week at sea awaiting permission to dock, and were quarantined upon arrival by Italian authorities.
