Love in Time of Cholera: Magda and Koko story from El Gederaf, Sudan

Majda Rizq, a Sudanese pharmacist and humanitarian worker, has spent more than 30 years with MSF. Forced to flee Khartoum in 2023, she and her husband, Mohamed Koko, who is also an MSF logistics manager, continued their work in El Gedaref amid war and personal loss.

In 2024, with nearly a million people displaced to El Gederaf and a cholera outbreak, Majda helped lead MSF’s emergency response—treating 3,000+ cases, securing clean water, and expanding healthcare for IDPs. Despite the challenges, she remains committed to her mission, hoping for a future where she can return hometown and rebuild.
