Malnutrition in Massakory

MSF started a malnutrition project in Chad’s Hadjer Lamis province in September 2021, after receiving alerts of high rates of malnutrition in the area and learning that no other actors were responding, due to a lack of funding. While malnutrition is recurrent and cyclical in Chad, the situation this year has been particularly bad. In a country that has been impacted more than most others from climate change, there has been very little rainfall this year, resulting in bad harvests and a steep increase of food prices. People are also suffering from a severe lack of water, very inadequate access to healthcare and a lack of education.

An “MSF emergency malnutrition response” in September 2021 has since evolved into a long-term project to address the recurrent nutritional crises in Chad’s Hadjer Lamis region.
