I’m Nicolas [MOULY] the emergency coordinator for MSF in Uganda. The Ebola outbreak has been declared the 20th September and one month later there are now 83 confirmed cases, including 47 deaths and fortunately 26 patients have been discharged cured from the treatment centre. MSF is working with the Ministry of Health in Mubende District where we help to set up a 40-bed treatment centre in the regional hospital, and an eight-bed Ebola Treatment Unit in Madudu to be closer to the patients. It is important to say that the sooner the patient is admitted to the treatment centre, the better are the chances of survival. We are currently working on the second 40-bed treatment centre to increase bed capacity where we will also be able to have an intensive care unit. We are starting soon to set up in Kampala a 63-bed to increase as well the capacity to manage the patients there.
We are also working at the community level for the case investigation, contact follow up and support the contacts that have to be isolated for 21 days, with the idea of reducing the time of admission after the beginning of symptoms.
