So, as of today, June 4th, there have been 16 confirmed cases in Uganda with one death. That's since the beginning of the outbreak that was declared on May 15th. That same day, MSF contacted the Ministry of Health to let them know that we were ready to intervene and support the response.

And since then, we've stepped up infection and prevention control measures in the projects where MSF was already working in Kasese District, at the hospital called KMC, Hima, as well as in Nyabirongo.

We've also rehabilitated a isolation center that was set up in 2022 in Kampala, which has enough space for 32 beds of isolation in an area called Mulago. And then we've also rehabilitated an isolation center in a city called Bwera, which is in the Kasese District, right on the border with the DRC, and is an area with high risk for potential imported cases. And we'll be supporting that center for the next few months.

Finally, we sent a team to the northwest of the country in an area called Arua, where MSF operated a project for around 20 years, to do an assessment to see what the needs were there, because it's also an area with a lot of border crossing from the outbreak areas in DRC. And we're ready to support on IPC as well as training in the area if we can.

So in the past, MSFs intervened on several occasions in Uganda to support the Ministry of Health in response to different Ebola outbreaks, mostly to work on case management, help set up Ebola treatment units, or help improve infection prevention and control measures. The most recent two outbreaks were in 2025 and 2022.
