Doctors Without Borders (MSF) has been present in the department of Norte de Santander since November 2018, working mainly with the venezuelan migrant population, as well as with the colombian population without social insurance. As a result of the migratory crisis in Venezuela, Migración Colombia estimates that currently around 1.7 million people from Venezuela live in the country, of which about 200 thousand live permanently in the department of Norte de Santander. MSF has worked in the areas of medical and mental health in the municipalities of Tibú - both in the capital and in the township of La Gabarra - and in Puerto Santander. Doctors Without Borders have worked on access to health, voluntary interruption of pregnancy and care for women, as well as on WASH and psychological care for the population that has migrated from Venezuela or that has been displaced by the armed conflict in the region. MSF terminates its project in December 2021 after reaching its initially outlined objectives and transfers the project to Première Urgence Internationale (PUI).
