For more than a year since the Ebola epidemic is raging in eastern DRC. There have now been more than 2000 Ebola-related deaths reported and cases have been confirmed in new geographical areas in the last weeks.
In Goma, MSF has set up an Ebola Treatment Center that has currently a 50 beds capacity, in Munigi area, Northern Goma. The structure opened early August. MSF teams are working together with Ministry of health staffs.
In Goma, 4 confirmed Ebola cases were reported between mid-July and early August. Since then, no new confirmed cases were identified.
However teams receive everyday suspect cases who are referred to the ETC by the surveillance team (MOH).
Patients are tested with blood, twice within 72 hours. Meanwhile, they receive adequate care in relation with their clinical status. So far all patients have been tested negative. Depending on their status, either they are either discharged or referred to a hospital to receive appropriate care.
