On 1 August 2018, an Ebola outbreak was declared in DR Congo. This is the 10th Ebola epidemic so far in the country. With more than 574 cases and 347 deaths, the outbreak has also become the biggest ever in DR Congo. The epicentre has moved from the town of Mangina, where the first cases were reported, to the bigger town of Beni and has now moved again to Butembo - a city of one million inhabitants. Butembo and its surrounding areas like Kalunguta and Katwa have seen a noticeable increase of new cases recorded in the past few weeks. As such, we have increased the number of beds in the ETC, stepped up our external activities, such as outreach activities to tackle community resistance as well as infection, prevention and control. On 6 December 2018, MSF began the construction of an ETC in the Katwa health zone, covering the eastern side of Butembo.
