MSF has worked in a maternal health clinic in Choloma since 2017. Choloma is an industrial city located in the Cortes department in Honduras: a place with high levels of violence.

Before MSF opened the project, there were few to no health centres dedicated to providing maternal and other healthcare for women in the area. Many pregnant women didn’t receive antenatal care and delivery services were very limited. The result of this was a high rate of medical complications for women of reproductive age.

Now, MSF teams in Choloma offer cervical cancer screening, vaccinations, family planning services, antenatal and postnatal care, 24/7 humanized birth and psychosocial care for survivors of violence, including sexual violence.
