Adamu, a 14-year-old noma patient from Kebbi state, has a screening session at the Sokoto Noma Hospital. The doctors check if his condition allows him to undergo surgery. Adamu and his two brothers got measles. Adamu developed noma and his nose began to rot as the infection took hold. “It [the nose] will never be as nice as it was. He has to come to terms with that,” explains the surgeon to Adamu’s father, Nadiri. The father nods. Since his son got sick, Nadiri has made it his personal battle to get surgery for his son.
