Chad, Sido, Muslim refugee fleeing violence in CAR, Mathieu Fortoul / MSF, dec 14

Since December 2013, more than 200,000 people, mainly Muslim, have sought refuge in southern Chad. They flee the cycles of violence and retaliation affecting the Central African Republic (CAR) for several months. Most of them arrived between January and April. Evolution of the violent dynamics in CAR crisis and the closure of the border between CAR and Chad in May have reduced the number of new arrivals. Nevertheless, some groups continue to cross the border and increase the number of refugees in Chadian camps. For these people, access to health care is reduced. Since February, MSF runs a project in Sido where 17,000 people fleeing CAR crisis are gathered. Today, MSF medical teams offer more than 500 consultations per week. Young children, the most vulnerable, suffer particularly of malaria and respiratory infections
