In April 2023, the Minister of Public Health announced an upsurge in cholera cases in Cameroon, with the epicentre in the Centre region. MSF decided to support the response in the city of Yaoundé. Our teams supported the Cholera Treatment Centre (CTC) at the EPC Hospital in Djoungolo, as well as two treatment units in the Cité Verte and Efoulan hospitals, by setting up a patient triage area, donating kits (buckets, sheets and bottles of water) and providing an ambulance to transfer patients to the CTC.

In addition to providing medical care, MSF has trained 60 community health workers deployed in the field to raise awareness in the community of the steps to take to prevent and reduce the spread of the epidemic. Also, in collaboration with the Ministry of Public Health and the WHO, MSF has provided oral rehydration points (ORPs) in the Odza health district and the Obili IHC.
