Armed with rifles and machine guns, around 15 men ordered me to go, as if I were heading for an interrogation.

Andrii took shelter in his own home dugout during the occupation of Hostomel. He was captured by the invading Russians.

I used to serve in the military. They discovered my uniform and labeled me as an enemy of Russia.

The cell, originally for 6 people, became overcrowded with doubled bed capacity. It resulted in an extremely cramped and limited space.

Captives often experience distorted time and space perception due to confinement in a small room without access to the outside world.

Andrii made a return and is now undergoing a rehabilitation program conducted by MSF. It includes physical therapy and psychological support.

Psychological violence can be more challenging than physical violence. Constant exposure to loud propaganda in the cell, making it difficult to communicate and overwhelming the mind, can lead to a loss of sanity.

As a human being, you are unique and not defined solely by negative experiences. The impact goes beyond that, encompassing a broader spectrum. However, people often forget this truth and find themselves living solely in the memories of their trauma. Life, for them, becomes divided into "before" and "after," and they feel trapped in that vacuum.

Psychologists aid in the process of adjustment to new conditions, facilitating the interpersonal dynamics and promoting resilience for continued growth.

In my opinion, a psychologist should be adaptable, able to have conversations with anyone about a range of topics. They may not need to delve too deeply, but they should have a general understanding of different subjects.

In my view, it is essential for every district polyclinic to have a dedicated psychologist. Ideally, there should be a separate entrance directly to the psychologist's office, providing easy access for patients. Emotional traumas can leave a profound impact, often surpassing the effects of physical ones.

MSF is presently offering rehabilitation services to 22 residents from the Kyiv region who have endured torture.
