Since 15 April, when war erupted between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and paramilitary group, Rapid Support Forces (RSF), millions of people have had to flee their homes.
Those displaced to Wad Madani (situated 170km to the southwest of Khartoum in Al Jazeera state), as well as in Rufaa and Al Hasaheisa, were living in dire conditions. 7.3 million people have been forced to abandon their homes and belongings. People were facing significant shortages in humanitarian aid, including insufficient shelter forcing some people to sleep outdoors on the ground. Moreover, they were residing in areas with alarming water and sanitation conditions, as well as limited access to food and healthcare, especially pregnant women, and people with chronic diseases.
MSF mobile clinic teams provided primary healthcare in gathering sites and camps in Al Jazirah state, bringing vital medical care close to those who need it most. In Wad Madani, our mobile clinics provided healthcare services in seven locations for people who have fled the intense fighting in Khartoum as well as carrying out water and sanitation activities, such as constructing and cleaning latrines and providing clean drinking water.
