INCREASING ADHERENCE TO TB TREATMENT IN PATIENTS WITH ALCOHOL USE DISORDER

Despite the fact that over the past 20 years the number of TB cases in the country has decreased almost three times, according to the MoH statistics, Belarus is still a hotspot for MDR/RR-TB , based on the WHO global lists of high burden countries for TB.

In 2016-2022, MSF and Belarus MoH ran a programme on the improvement of adherence to the DR-TB treatment in patients with alcohol use disorder (AUD) in Minsk, Belarus. The key elements of the programme were person-centered multidisciplinary approach and psychosocial support for patients suffering from harmful use of alcohol and DR-TB. Thanks to the patient-centered approach introduced by MSF and Belarus MoH, patients' needs were met through joint efforts of various healthcare providers, state and administrative bodies, friends and family members.
