Due to the sharp increase in COVID-19 cases since the beginning of March 2021 MSF relaunched its C-19 Emergency intervention at the Al Gamhouria Covid-19 Treatment Center, following the signature of a Memorandum of Understanding(MoU) on 15 March with the Ministry of Public Health and Population and the Al Gamhouria Hospital Management.

A Covid-19 emergency team consisting of 1 Project Coordinator, 1 Medical Coordinator 2 ICU Medical Doctors, 2 ICU Nurses and 2 Logisticians to treat critically ill Covid-19 patients. MSF is currently providing advanced medical care for up to 11 patients at the ICU and a maximum of 40 patients at the Inpatient Department. All ICU beds are currently occupied.

Our teams are seeing an exponential rise in the numbers of people with Covid, leading to saturated hospitals and shortages of supplies like oxygen. Medical organisations and aid donors urgently need to step in and provide assistance.
