During October, in Pozzallo, people who arrived were mainly sub-Saharan Africans – they were stranded in a transitory reception centre or unofficial camps for an indeterminate amount of time, while the current facilities and services are not adequate for a long-term stay. Receptions conditions are still inadequate. This situation continues to seriously impact on the mental and physical health of the most vulnerable among them.

In Ragusa, Sicily, MSF supports the Italian health authorities by providing medical consultations to undocumented migrants in local health centres. MSF teams are also working around the clock to cope with a large influx of migrants in the Sicilian port of Pozzallo. They also provide a first medical screening to migrants, asylum seekers and refugees at arrival in Pozzallo reception centre.
