Typhoon Rai (local name Odette) swept across the Philippines in December 2021.

Typhoon Rai was the strongest storm to make landfall in the Philippines in 2021, affecting 11 regions and 38 provinces, leaving an estimated 407 dead and 1,147 injured. The Philippine National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) reported damage to agriculture at PHP7.68 billion, and damage to infrastructure at PHP16.9 billion. The typhoon also left significant damage to houses in 10 regions along its path, with 582,626 either partially or totally damaged, as well as damaged airports and seaports.

Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) emergency teams will start providing medical and humanitarian assistance to communities on the remote islands of Dinagat, Siargao and other outlying areas, some of the worst affected by Typhoon Rai (local name: Odette), which struck the Philippines in December 2021 causing hundreds of casualties.
