In Uzbekistan, MSF focuses on improving diagnosis and treatment for people with tuberculosis, including drug-resistant forms of the disease. In Karakalpakstan, a region in northwest Uzbekistan where MSF has been supporting TB treatment for over 20 years, our TB project implements a comprehensive patient-centred model of care. With the establishment of COVID-19 quarantine rules in the beginning of 2020, there have been travel restrictions for general population, resulting in limited access to Directly Observed Treatment (DOT) facilities. Video Observed Treatment (V-DOT) seemed to be a good solution to many challenges our patients and teams faced, and along with other adherence interventions allowed patients to continue treatment successfully without missing any doses of medications, which is a monumental success considering the current situation.
