At the request of the provincial authorities of North Kivu, MSF converted the Ebola Treatment Centre (CTE) in Munigi, located on the outskirts of Goma, into an isolation and treatment centre for Covid-19. The centre (CTco) was rehabilitated to accommodate and treat suspected and confirmed Covid-19 cases, including unstable patients requiring respiratory assistance.
From 27 May 2020 until the day the centre was handed over to the authorities on 14 July 2020, a total of 16 Covid patients were admitted to the centre under the MSF pavilion. With the rehabilitation of the CTCo in Munigi, MSF has helped to strengthen the health system and the capacity of Ministry of Health healthcare providers in North Kivu. The CTCo in Munigi is now in the hands of the communities and medical authorities of the province, who will now manage and supervise it.
