Extending a helping hand: MSF supports local health facilities treating the wounded in southern Iraq

Mass anti-government protests broke out in Iraq on October 1st. The cities of Najaf and Nasiriyah, in the south of the country, have been particularly impacted by it and have witnessed an increase in violence in the past months. MSF was in contact with hospitals in these cities to identify needs and provided essential trainings to medical teams to better respond to mass casualty influxes.

MSF helped three main hospital in Najaf city in supporting their mass casualty multi-disciplinary approach and provided them with mass casualty triage equipment. At Al-Hakim general hospital, MSF, in collaboration with the Directorate of Health, conducted a simulation for a mass casualty incident on the 3rd of February 2020. MSF also supported the Directorate of Health in forming two rapid response ambulance teams for mass casualty incidents.
