SUBTITLE:
Sexual violence is a medical emergency that requires medical, mental health and social care. Nevertheless, we know that not all the survivors receive the medical care they require.

ON SCREEN TEXT:
MSF insists in the urgency in of standardizing a comprehensive care protocol, that includes pregnancy, sexual transmitted infections and HIV prevention, as well as psychological care.
Without this, the physical and mental health consequences for survivors of sexual violence are devastating.

Generally, what we identified in these patients is stress, anxiety, post-traumatic stress and depression disorders. In some cases, we also see suicidal attempts.
People enter in a depressive state where usually they think about suicide, specifically because of the traumatic event, and additionally because of an unwanted pregnancy.

Due to the ECP prohibition, many survivors of sexual violence opt for alternative unsafe pregnancy prevention methods.

SUBTITLE:
People are resorting to clandestine places where they can buy drugs. Many times, those medicines are not of good quality.

If the ECP prohibition is eliminated, women would have access to safe and quality pregnancy prevention methods.
A protocol for the care of survivors of sexual violence that does not includes the ECP, is an incomplete protocol.

In 2018, MSF provided care to 592 survivors of sexual violence in Tegucigalpa 41% were underage 87% were women

If the ECP wasn’t prohibited, women who became pregnant as a consequence of sexual violence, could have avoided an unwanted pregnancy

MSF calls the Ministry of Health of Honduras for the approval of a national comprehensive care protocol for survivors of sexual violence, that includes the ECP.
