Medecins Sans Frontieres (MSF) set up accommodation tents outside derelict warehouses which refugees and refugees use as a makeshift shelter in temporary refugee camp in Belgrade, Serbia.

More than 7500 people are currently stranded in Serbia, trying to cross the borders in dangerous and deadly routes or living in overcrowded camps and informal settlements. The country has agreed with the EU to host up to 6000, of whose only 3140 in facilities adapted for winter. In Belgrade, around 1,700 young people, mainly from Afghanistan, Pakistan, Iraq and Syria are currently sleeping in abandoned buildings in the city center, with temperatures as low as minus 20. In the past months, Serbian authorities have severely restricted the provision of humanitarian assistance to this population, only tolerating basic distribution of blankets and food organised by volunteers.
