Awerial, South Sudan - Broll - January 2014

Three weeks of fighting raging throughout much of South Sudan are having increasingly serious consequences for the country’s population. MSF‘s emergency teams are currently working in Juba, Awerial and Malakal to provide medical care to more than 110,000 people displaced from their homes by the fighting.

In the camp of Awerial, host up to 70 000 people, MSF provides health care in two clinics (outpatient departments) and one inpatient department. Teams lead more than 200 consultations per day, with severe diarrhoea being the most frequent pathology, due to the bad hygiene conditions in the camps. To prevent watery diseases, MSF has started to chlorate water from the Nile and will implement rehydration points in the camp and train community health workers.
