Borno State has been affected by the ongoing conflict in northeast Nigeria. Many displaced people from the surrounding areas affected by Boko Haram violence are living in the town of Damboa, as well as in three camps: Central Camp, General Hospital Camp and Hausari Camp.

An MSF team has been on the ground treating patients in Damboa since July 2016. Three clinics are running on a daily ambulatory basis in three different camps, treating both IDP's and Damboa host community. The majority of patients seen, especially children, have presented symptoms of severe acute malnutrition, malaria, diarrhea and other hygiene related diseases.

Due to limited access to clean water and an inadequate number of latrines in the camps the IDPs additionally face serious challenges with water and sanitation. The MSF team is also conducting water and sanitation activities to improve this situation.
