Athens, Greece. A few steps from the road which runs along the sea south of the city, the former Elliniko airport has been converted into a refugee camp. MSF teams go there four times a week to provide reproductive healthcare and psychological support.
About 3,500 people, mostly Afghan, have been living here for months in tents in the old airport terminal and inside two of the Olympic stadiums which are no longer in use.?
Here, it’s only humanitarian organizations providing healthcare to refugees This includes mental healthcare for anxiety and depression which affects large numbers of people.?
Supporting the Greek health authorities, MSF also conducted immunization for children aged 6 weeks to 15 years in Elliniko. Kids were immunized against six childhood diseases: measles, tetanus, pertussis, influenza, polio, hepatitis B and certain forms of pneumonia.
