In April the hospital we supported in El Geneina was looted. All the medical materials were taken, and parts of the hospital were destroyed, but this week a small team of MSF staff documented the remarkable progress of rebuilding essential healthcare services in the ransacked El Geneina Teaching hospital.

Looting and destruction,
this is what happened in the MSF supported hospital in El Geneina, Sudan, in May this year.

Ours teams have deployed massive efforts to reopen the hospital.

Today, we’ve visited the El Geneina Teaching hospital and we could see that the situation has improved over the last couple of months.
 MSF is working there, we are trying as much as possible to support the hospital management but yet there is still a lot to be done, there still a lot of missing capacities and there are a lot of patients that require the support from MSF and from the local capacities.

Until recently, heavy fighting in West Darfur has forced MSF teams to stop almost all activities.

The conflict in Sudan continues to have a devastating impact on people, with massive displacement and thousands civilians killed.

El Geneina Teaching hospital is the main hospital for the communities living in the city and all over the West Darfur state. People are struggling to access essential healthcare.

MSF is supporting the paediatric and nutrition inpatient departments, infection prevention control measures, and water and sanitation services.
