Additional Information / Shotlist Swaziland is in the middle of a medical crisis. Tuberculosis, the highest HIV prevalence in the world and the emergence of (Multi-) Drug Resistants TB (M-DR TB), threaten to have a disastrous effect on the social and economic situation in Swaziland. Because of unmet medical needs MSF implemented integrated, decentralized health care for HIV, (MDR) TB and co infected patients.
In Makanyane, a small town in the rural Manzini Region, MSF is assisting the National Tuberculosis Program and – Aids Program. Support is given to screen and improve and increase the diagnosis capacity of (MDR) TB, treatment, rehabilitation of health units and implementation of improved infection control measures, integration of- and decentralization of treatment of HIV and (MDR) TB Patients are treated via a patient tailored / centered approach: they can be treated in hospital, clinic, a special house or at home through the ambulant care program.
