Thousands of migrants, in an unprecedented number in recent months, are overcrowded at points along the Mexican route in appalling conditions, in need of basic services.

There is an increased vulnerability to violence and abuse of the people on the move, which are increasingly made up of families, with women and children also in need of protection. This abuse and violence is widespread and includes that carried out by the Mexican security forces.

The response to the needs of the migratory flow remains inadequate and slow. Organisations and institutions should step up their action on migration.
