In Sudan,
as the conflict intensifies,
MSF has been experiencing looting
in different areas of Khartoum and in some states of Darfur.
Some of our premises and health facilities we were supporting have been looted or experienced intrusions,
as it is the case of El Geneina Teaching Hospital.

Sylvain

The hospital was looted, including some of the wards, the paediatric and the malnutrition wards that were supported by MSF and some drugs, medical material and equipment have been taken from the facility which is no longer operational. And unfortunately, this was the only place in West Darfur where we could manage the most critical cases.

As of 22 May, according to World Health Organisation,
around 38 medical facilities were attacked since April 15.
The ongoing conflict has aggravated the situation that was extremely difficult already, with a third of the population needing humanitarian assistance.

People currently do not have access to healthcare, they do not have access to drinkable water, they do not have access to security as they do not have access to basic commodities and services.

To be able to sustain our activities and to scale up our operations to meet the needs in Sudan, we are calling the warring parties to ensure the safety and the security of medical personnel, health facilities and the patients.

Closing text:

MSF runs medical projects in about 10 states in Sudan. This includes treating war wounded, providing healthcare and water and sanitation services for refugees and displaced people and donations to health facilities.
