It’s been going on for over a year

On April 15, 2023, intense fighting broke out between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces in the capital of Khartoum and across the country.

The indiscriminate violence has killed or injured thousands and turned Sudan into the world’s largest displacement crisis.

Ten million people have been displaced, including two million who fled to neighbouring countries.

The healthcare system is on the brink of collapse

Between 70-80% of health facilities are no longer functioning, leaving many without access to care.

Disease outbreaks are a high risk in overcrowded camps.

Food insecurity and malnutrition have reached catastrophic levels.

In Zamzam camp in North Darfur, 30% of children under 5 are suffering from acute malnutrition – that's double the threshold that indicates there is an emergency.

3. Security and Access are extremely challenging

Aid workers are exposed to the ongoing violence, and healthcare facilities have been attacked.

These conditions forced MSF to suspend some of its activities, but our international and local teams still operate in 8 of Sudan's 18 states.

MSF is one of the few international aid organisations still working in Sudan but humanitarian access and aid are systemically being blocked by the warring parties, putting millions of people at risk.

Protection of civilians and medical missions, unimpeded humanitarian access and a massive scale-up of the response are needed now!
