Dunia's life revolves around caring for her two children, a boy and a girl. Her 11-year-old daughter has cerebral palsy and epilepsy and is paralysed, which makes caring for her extremely challenging.

Dunia needs to make regular visits to MSF’s clinic in Arsal to collect medication for her daughter, but the recent restrictions on Syrian refugees’ freedom of movement have made this increasingly challenging. No longer able to use her motorcycle, Dunia must walk the 20 km to the clinic, carrying her daughter in her arms.

"I take her to the clinic, but I have to sit and rest five to six times on the way,” says Dunia.

The recent tightening of restrictions on refugees’ freedom of movement, combined with increased anti-refugee rhetoric and threats of deportation, are making it much harder for vulnerable people to access healthcare. Dunia is struggling to cope with a situation in which she and her children are effectively trapped inside their home.

"My kids can’t go outside, I can’t go outside,” says Dunia. “The situation is concerning. We fear everything.”
