We are witnessing populations living in precarious situations where the needs in terms of sanitation, water, food and latrines are lacking, also in terms of living conditions, these remain very dire.

I came from Kingi village, and I am here because of the war. I fled, and I ended up here and with the others we are suffering, we are living an unbearable life of suffering. Eating is a headache, if the authorities and humanitarians don't help us, we can't find food.


Every time food is distributed, there are neighbors who don't receive any. So when I am given food, I share with my neighbor who didn't get any, so that he can give to his children.

Our teams are on the ground to provide access to primary healthcare for these populations, to provide access to water and latrines, but as I said, there are many needs.
There is a cholera outbreak that has been declared in the town of Goma and essentially in the IDP camps. There is also a measles epidemic that was recently declared.


The humanitarian response is not meeting the needs

When I came here, I built this shelter by myself in one day. I spend the night in it, but when it rains, it is a disaster. The whole house is flooded and we have to go out and stay outside in the rain.

There is an accumulation of displaced people here in Goma, but not only in Goma. We also need to look at the situation in other locations, for example towards Lubero where our teams are deployed. There are also displaced people and populations in entire areas who have no access to medicines, no access to humanitarian aid, and the assistance cannot reach them.


The situation is already critical. We need to intensify the response, because the worst is yet to come. We are really in a situation where we need to act and respond quickly.
