The missile fell behind us, and I felt like… I was in a whirlpool, I fell, and I don’t remember much. I flew from the middle to the edge of the street, about six metres away. My cousin tied my leg at the thigh and said, "Either we all die as martyrs, or you go alone." They left me behind and said they would send someone to help.

Abdulrahman, 15, was critically injured on 10 February 2024, after an Israeli airstrike targeted him and his friends in northern Gaza while they were out looking for food.

I crawled alone onto the pavement; no one was with me. They started firing shells around me. I mean, they saw a child and they fired a missile at me that was about my size. But thank God… I kept crawling, fainting every now and then. I continued to scream.

Abdul Rahman nearly lost his leg in the attack. After receiving emergency surgery in Gaza, he was medically evacuated to Egypt, and then to the MSF hospital in Amman.

At the Baptist Hospital [Gaza], they performed surgeries on me without anaesthesia. They cleaned the bone, and cut the bone, all without anaesthesia.

Thank God, when I grow up, I want to become a surgeon, just like the doctors who treated my leg.

In Amman, our teams are treating some of the few Gazan children who were evacuated from the Strip for medical care.

According to WHO, 14,000 people in Gaza need medical evacuation. So far, almost 60% of the requests have been rejected by the Israeli authorities.

The Israeli authorities must facilitate medical evacuations from Gaza, while ensuring that patients and their caregivers are guaranteed a safe, voluntary and dignified return to Gaza.
