Additional Information / Shotlist In collaboration with the Ministry of Health, MSF supports the Magburaka government hospital in Tonkolili district, northern province of Sierra Leone, providing secondary healthcare services to pregnant women, lactating mothers and children under the age of five.

Health promotion is one of the key components of MSF’s work in the district. The health promotion team carries out health information sessions about early referral to health facilities, hygiene and sanitation practices, signs and symptoms of diseases, the importance of vaccination for children, and sensitization of Sexual and Gender Based Violence (SGBV) and discussions on the shift from traditional herbs to prescribed drugs.

These sessions are carried out mostly within communities in Kholifa Rowalla chiefdom, surrounding Magburaka town. The team visits a total of 105 communities in Tonkolili district, visiting three communities in a day, once every week. Once a month, they also support the rest of the medical team in implementing blood drives in communities across the district, to ensure sufficient supply of blood is available at the Magburaka government hospital. In the weeks prior to the blood drive, they mobilize potential donors.
