Fatima Djidda, 19, has now been living in the Gulmey IDP camp for two months. The Gulmey camp is far south of the capital N'Djamena and is an area where there are two refugee camps for people from Cameroon. The flood of October 24 radically changed the life of Fatima. Before her flood, Fatima lived with her husband and sisters on a farm. They had animals and grew rice. They were mainly farmers and had no particular food problems. They had a simple life, made up of work and effort but they had everything they needed. Then the arrival of the flood destroyed everything and so Fatima, she found herself abandoning her home and her belongings.

What she can do now is go to the forest, which is not very far from the camp, and try to collect some firewood. Then once this wood is cut, she tries to sell it to earn some money. There are people who buy wood, they use it for cooking but Fatima says it's not a big business; if she does well she manages to earn something just to buy rice or to pay for school.

The forest is a private area and you couldn't go but it's the only thing that allows them to survive. Fatima and her sisters do not receive any help, just like the other displaced people, they don't even have a mattress where they can lie down at night to get some sleep and their desire is to go back to having a home, food and a daily life better than what they are experiencing now.
