On 8 January, violent attacks near Drodo, in Ituri province, in the east of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, drove thousands of people take refuge at the Rhoe IDP site.

It is estimated that the camp's population has doubled to more than 70,000 people. 

Joasine

The population at this site hasn’t received any food assistance since June. It’s difficult to grow crops because of the ongoing atrocities. If you go into the fields, you’ll die; you’ll never come back. And the harvest is very poor. There’s no market and the fields are unproductive. Food is a huge problem. Even for us staff; we may have a little money, but there’s nothing to buy.

Besides food, needs related to water, sanitation and hygiene are the most important.
 
Joasine :

The main disease is always diarrhoea. Poor hygiene and full latrines spread diseases.
How can we protect ourselves to avoid another outbreak?

TEXT

Ensuring a steady delivery of humanitarian aid is essential to meet the urgent needs of the displaced people in Rhoe.

MSF is currently one of just two humanitarian actors present at the site.

Our teams are providing essential medical care to the population, including psychological first aid, through a health post.

Sleeping disorders are the main problem.
People are very worried, very stressed and we’re seeing a lot of anxiety.
