This is a drawing
by a 13-year-old patient in Gaza
as read by an MSF psychologist.

What is truly striking
about this drawing,

beyond the massive violence
that it depicts,

is that there are kind
of two worlds.

A world made of yellow,

with beautiful houses
and the shining sun.

And a world made of red,

with dismantled body parts
taken down to pieces.

It's like a need
to purge something from a reality

that is profoundly painful,
that is just way too hurtful

to be contained in the mind
and heart of a child.

And although we do see missiles
coming down from the sky,

what is also striking is that it's not the houses
that are being destroyed here,

but the bodies.

And that is a reality
that is just unfathomable to imagine

for a child that age (13 years old).

It's like there is a before
and an after in this drawing.

The world of the sun
and the chosen colour

was yellow, a colour of light, of joy.

And then the attack,

and the world that
becomes truly chaotic.

A world where the human body
is just becoming

kind of objectified and
can be dismantled

as we would dismantle a puppet
or a doll.

And this in itself is quite frightening.
