What is the situation in Sudan?

[00:32] So since Saturday, intense fighting broke out, starting in the capital, Khartoum, and then spread to other parts of the country, that has been a tremendous impact for the population. First of all, of course, many people got wounded. [00:45]

[00:48] At the same time, people got trapped, so they took shelter where they were at the moment.[00:50]

[00:59] People cannot go out to get food, basic needs, and especially, of course, they cannot access healthcare. We have seen many health facilities being closed or shut down. [01:09]

[01:57] At the same time, this has impacted also on infrastructure with part of the capital and other cities that have lost electricity, water supply and so on and so forth. So, this conflict obviously has a tremendous impact also for our team and our project. [02:13]

[02:18] We have been looted. For instance, in Nyala [Darfur], our office was looted. Our warehouse was looted. Our team was stuck at home. [02:27]

What is MSF doing?
[03:34] So, in some of our facilities, of course, the population cannot access and therefore we have seen less patients coming to the hospital. [03:43]

[03:43] There are less hospital functioning and some indeed are running out of supplies. They are demanding our support, but we cannot provide that support because it is not safe to move at the moment. [03:52]

[02:27] And, of course, safety, security of the team remains our priority. [02:31]

[02:31] At the same time for instance in El Fasher [North Darfur], we received wounded, and we assisted part of the population that was impacted by this conflict. [02:37]

What is MSF calling for?

[04:35] For the population it is essential to seek healthcare, to have safety and security. At the moment, if you're wounded, if you're sick, if you're unwell at home, you can't leave your house. As simple as that. And this is unacceptable. It's unbearable for the population to withstand this. [04:52]

[05:08] We can and want to do more. But to do so, we need better safety and security for the population, the medical professionals, and humanitarian workers. [05:16]
