Located about 100 km from Goma, the town has been controlled by the armed groups since November 2023, while Wazalendo militias, loosely allied with the government in Kinshasa, surround it to the east and west. With 1,227 violent trauma cases treated in the first half of 2025 alone - a 5% increase compared to the same period in 2024 - Mweso ranks among the MSF projects in eastern DRC with the highest trauma caseloads.
