Sierra Leone is presently witnessing a #MPox outbreak recording an average of 120 new cases per day since 25 April 2025. MPox was declared a national public health emergency in the country in January 2025. As of May 4th, 2025 the authorities recorded 1,074 actives cases mainly in the Western Area Urban (Freetown) and Western Area Rural Districts.
To support with the MPox response, MSF rehabilitated the infectious isolation ward for #Mpox in the Connaught Hospital in #Freetown which is the main referral government hospital, donated Infection Prevention and Control materials as well as installed a chlorine production unit.
The situation is under review and we are in contact with the authorities.
