We were robbed and looted, left with nothing. We walked to El Fasher, children and adults alike. We suffered immensely, but the people of El Fasher received us kindly.

After the war between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces began, Ruqaya Idris was displaced from Tawila in June 2023 following an RSF and allied militias attack. She fled to El Fasher, only to be caught up in violence and the siege of the city .

Because of the shelling, deaths, and stray bullets, we had to return to Tawila, where we suffered again. Prices were high, and we came back with nothing. In El Fasher, when we were staying in the schools, we used to receive breakfast and lunch meals.

In October 2024, MSF launched emergency activities in Tawila as growing numbers of displaced people arrived. Despite being relatively spared from the fighting, living conditions in the town are harsh.

An MSF screening in December revealed that one in three children suffered from acute malnutrition in the locality .
