أنا عليّة زين العابدين، من بعلبك، عين بعال.

I am Aliyye Zein Al-Abidin, from Baalbek, Ain Baal.

كنت أسكن في حناويه مع زوجي

I used to live in Hanouiyeh with my husband,

[00:00:15]

والذي توفي في الحرب

who was killed in the war.

[00:00:18]

أقمنا 22 يومًا في حناويه، إلى أن طالتنا غارة وسقط ثلاثة شهداء.

We stayed in Hanouiyeh for 22 days until an airstrike hit us, killing three people.

ثم قررنا أن نهرب إلى قرية اسمها كيفون، وهناك نزحنا.

Then we decided to flee to a village called Kayfoun, where we were displaced.

انهار البيت فوقنا فجأة ولم نعرف كيف حصل ذلك.

The house collapsed on top of us suddenly—we didn’t even understand how it happened.

كان هناك حائط واحد يفصل بيننا وبين الذين استشهدوا

There was only one wall separating us from those who were martyred,

[00:00:38]

وفجأة سقط الزجاج علينا.

and then suddenly, glass shattered over us.

[00:00:41]

أخرجني أشخاص آخرون ووصلوني بجهاز تنفس اصطناعي

Others pulled me out and put me on a ventilator

[00:00:45]

لأنني استنشقت الغبار والفسفور

because I had inhaled dust and phosphorus.

[00:00:48]

ولا زلت إلى الآن أتألّم، فسعالي جاف وأشعر بألم في الصدر من الغبار.

To this day, I still suffer—I have a dry cough and chest pain from the dust.

تعبنا تعبًا شديدًا.

We suffered a lot.

[00:00:58]

رجعنا إلى قريتنا حناويه، جوزي متوفٍ والبيت بلا شبابيك

When we returned to our village, Hanouiyeh, my husband was gone, the house had no windows,

[00:01:02]

وخسرنا الأثاث وحتى ملابسي.

and we had lost our furniture—even my clothes were gone.

[00:01:05]

أنا أصلي من عين بعال، جئت إلى بيت أهلي بلا شيء

I am originally from Ain Baal, so I went back to my parents' house with nothing.

حتى عندما هربت كنت أرتدي ملابس صيفية، وشعرنا ببرد شديد هناك.

Even when I fled, I was wearing summer clothes, and we suffered from the cold there.

لم نحمل شيئًا معنا.

We didn’t take anything with us.

[00:01:21]

نسيت بطاقة الهوية وأوراقي الثبوتية، فلم يكن معنا وقت أصلًا.

I left behind my ID and official documents. We didn’t even have time to remember these.

فقد تفاجأنا بما حصل.

We were completely caught off guard.

[00:01:28]

فإذا كنت في بيتك يأويك وطالتك غارة، فكيف لك أن تتذكري حمل هذه الأشياء؟

When an airstrike hits while you're sheltering at home, how would you even remember to grab such things?

[00:01:33]

لقد تعبنا كثيرًا يا أختي،

We have suffered greatly, sister,

[00:01:37]

ولا زلنا إلى الآن نقاسي الألم.

and we are still enduring the pain.

[00:01:39]

خسر الناس بيوتهم وأموالهم.

People lost their homes and their savings.

[00:01:43]

إلا أن الوجع هنا، في القلب.

But the deepest pain is here, in the heart.

[00:01:46]

فوجع الإنسان الداخلي ليس كوجعه الجسدي.

The pain inside a person is nothing like physical pain.

[00:01:49]

فالمتألم جسديًا يتناول الدوء.

If someone is physically hurt, they can take medicine.

[00:01:52]

فماذا يمكننا أن نفعل؟

What can we do?

[00:01:53]

هذا ما قد حصل.

This is what happened.

[00:01:54]

تصوري أننا تركنا بلدنا لشهرين، بلا أشغال أو أعمال، ومصاريف دون مدخول.

Imagine leaving your home for two months—no work, no income, only expenses.

فإذا كان إنفاقنا من المدخرات فقد طوال الوقت، ستنفد المدخرات.

If you keep spending from your savings, eventually, they will run out.

[00:02:06]

ومن كان يحمل المال فقد أنفقه على الطعام.

And those who had money spent it just to afford food.
