Dr Zelalem Tafese, MSF Medical Doctor with the Mobile Ethiopia Emergency Team (MEET) shares about the needs and relevance of the team’s work in Bench Sheko in response to the malaria pick.

In August 2025, MSF Emergency team deployed a team at Southwest Ethiopia region to support the malaria response amidst a malaria pick. MSF established a dedicated Malaria ward in Mizan Tepi Teaching hospital and outreach malaria interventions in the Zone, focusing on both treatment and health promotion activities.
In twelve weeks of the intervention, MSF teams have treated more than 8,000 malaria cases through their mobile clinics, while admitting 772 severe malaria cases in Mizan Tepi Teaching hospital.
