I am from Edaga Arbi.

Our home was destroyed,

our possessions were destroyed.

After this happened,

we went to the village
to save our lives.

We became displaced.

I have four children,
but I have nothing left now.

Our children have nothing.

We have seen displacement
since the beginning of the conflict.

People were not displacing
in big numbers

and they were supported
by host communities,

staying in the house of relatives

or in the house of people
that they know.

They were sharing resources.

But now the situation
in the last weeks has changed

and we are finding a bigger influx
of people coming,

especially to Adwa and Axum.

They are settling down
in informal structures

like schools and some other places

that don’t have the capacity
to host all this amount of people.

If people hadn’t helped us,

we would have been eaten by animals.

I’m still better off
than the people who died

and other displaced people.

This is a very serious situation

because we don’t see
that there is a big response

from the humanitarian community,
from the different actors,

to cope with this new
big influx of people.

These newly displaced people are
arriving with no access to services,

to water, to sanitation, no food
and no access to medical services.

I don’t want this to happen,
for my children’s sake.

People of the world,
please find us a solution.
