Medical activities in Gaza strip following the 11 days of bombardment in May 2021

MSF physiotherapist, Mohammed Ali Abed El Qakder Al Qatrawi, prepares a compressive face mask for a burn victim in an MSF’s burn and trauma clinic in Gaza city. On 16 May 2021, the Israeli air strikes in the area damaged the clinic, where MSF see over 1000 children a year with burn and trauma injuries, leaving a sterilisation room unusable and a waiting area damaged. Following a few days of closure, MSF reopened the clinic on 20 May 2021.

Additional Information / Shotlist Between the 10th and 21st of May, 2021, Israeli airstrikes and shelling killed 256 people, including 66 children in the Gaza Strip. Almost 2,000 Palestinians were injured in Gaza, including over 600 children and 400 women, some of whom sustained injuries resulting in long-term disability. During the offensive, many people in Gaza were unable to access medical care access to the medical facilities was impeded and stocks of medications and medical supplies ran low. Throughout the offensive, our teams in Gaza worked in very dangerous conditions and at times were unable to run some regular services. Since the bombing stopped, we have scaled up all of our regular activities.
