I was so terrified to come back! I kept recalling everything. It seemed to me that I would return and encounter the same.
At the start of the conflict in Eastern Ukraine,
Tetiana and her family experienced explosions in their village. Her daughter and grandson survived by hiding in a basement.

After that, Tetiana moved away. But in the end she returned to help people in her village.
The first shipment of humanitarian supplies went to Avdiivka city. I joined them. We brought lunches to basements where elderly people lived.

I met a woman in a basement. I think she was above 90 years old, an elderly woman. What I saw turned my mindset upside down. She got me back on track.
Then I promised myself... since I was still alive, since my children were still alive, my grandson remained alive and there is an opportunity to change something in my life... I promised myself to be a volunteer.

It’s our office, our home. We often come here and gather as a team. There are 13 of us. We have been working for 5 years now.

Counselling is carried out here. Doctors and lawyers arrive here. We hand out [humanitarian] assistance. Children come here. We organise events for them.
This is also where Tetiana and her team meet with MSF.

Tetiana, with the support of MSF, helps people get to pharmacies and hospitals and provides accurate and up-to-date health information.

She also coordinates the work of volunteers in other villages.
Currently I am responsible for 12 locations. There are volunteers helping in each of these districts.

They transport those who are ill and vulnerable and have no transport of their own to a family doctor or a secondary care professional, as well as bringing medicine under the Affordable Drugs programme.
Pensions are small, roads are bad. 73% of the current population in the village are elderly. They can’t travel on their own to get medical help.
The conflict cut some villages off from the cities and other centres they used to rely on for healthcare services.
Now they find it difficult to get to hospitals or clinics.

MSF is supporting volunteers who provide free transport using their own vehicles.
